So, if you put 3,000 or so area residents at the Shadowland Pavilion in 90-degree heat and humidity, what do you get? Answer: A lame crowd of boring people.
That's what the Collective Soul concert was like Sunday. The crowd was DEAD, and Collective Soul seemed to just go through the motions. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised. It's just another example of why the Venetian Festival isn't all that great. There's the beach, but that's there every day. There's the overpriced fair food. And some crafts stuff from small-time vendors up on the bluff.
Basically, it's not a lot of fun. It's now a "family" event, so that means LAME and BORING. They used to have a beer tent once upon a time, but that wasn't in line with the new "family" theme someone thought up while reading their Bible or whatnot. Christ.
I feel sorry for Jon, Zack's soon-to-be roommate up at Ferris. Jon drove down from Ferris on Saturday to see Collective Soul and Zack, but ran into car problems. Had to have it towed and fixed and all that shit. At one point Sunday, Jon said, "I came here for this?" Lovely. Basically there's nothing for single young folks to do at Venetian. After all, it is a "family" event.
Later on I took Zack and Jon to dinner at The Stray Dog. And as we did earlier in the day, Zack and me kept checking out hot guys :) That's fun, and it's fun that I can do that with Zack.
Ooooh, I get this Saturday off :) But that means I have to work M-F, which is something I don't usually do. It starts to drag after like Thursday, and it makes Friday a bitch. The boss is back Monday, so that'll be even more fun ...
